Is Paradise Worth it?
We see backyard remodels as an important investment. Whether the purpose is to serve as your private escape, entertain your family and friends, or simply increase the value of your home, this project should be met with the highest of standards, detailed planning, and a watchful eye from start to finish. At Paradise, our approach is not founded in taking shortcuts or cutting costs at the expense of long-term value. Here are a few reasons why we may cost more than others:
-
Our Leading Credentials & Safety Standards
-
Our team is fully licensed and insured. For us, working safely, legally, and ethically is of utmost importance and worth the extra investment.
-
We are also certified by industry-respected organizations like the Pool and Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA) and the National Plasterers Council (NPC).
-
Because we value the aesthetic just as much as the technical, we also pursued and earned “Stain Specialist” certification by Jack’s Magic.
-
As active members of the Florida Swimming Pool Association (FSPA), including holding a position on the board, we stay at the forefront of best practices and innovations.

Our Thorough Approach
-
Draining: Before we begin, we conduct a pressure test on all lines to detect any pre-existing leaks in your pool. We then proceed to carefully test and treat the water before draining, neutralizing chemicals to minimize environmental impact and meet county requirements. As we drain, we secure the pool shell during draining by drilling pressure relief holes, which release hydrostatic pressure that could otherwise cause the shell to shift or crack due to groundwater forces. This step safeguards the structure, setting the foundation for a safe, successful remodel.
-
Prep Work: Unlike other remodel approaches, which rely on a simple pressure wash to remove loose old plaster, we use a multi-step preparation method. This includes dimpling with a jack hammer every few inches to actively inspect the entire shell for hollow spots. We then address any problem areas by chipping them away so that the new plaster can bond directly to solid concrete. This additional effort prevents hollow spots or other moisture issues from reforming in the same locations in the future.
-
Attention to Aesthetics: As pool owners ourselves, we understand that construction is not merely a checklist of completed tasks but a set of building blocks that form a beautiful piece of art. One technique we have learned and perfected over the past few decades is an artistic choice that helps a remodel look like a brand new pool. Because some of the heavily bonded older plaster will inevitably remain as a foundation for the new plaster, this can often cause the water line tile to appear sunken back into the wall after replastering. The result is a visible lip of plaster underneath the tile line, which some customers find unappealing. Our solution is to use a chipping hammer at an angle below the tile line to graduate the extra thickness of the old plaster, allowing the new plaster to line up perfectly flush with the tile line at the end of the project. Although this adds extra work, it has become a signature of our attention to aesthetic detail, and is one of many examples where our team goes above and beyond the industry standard.

Our Personal Oversight on Every Project
-
At Paradise, the owners Brian and Ama are physically present on every project, overseeing each stage and guaranteeing that no detail is overlooked. From start to finish, we communicate clearly, with detailed emails that explain what to expect and any steps you may need to take. This transparency helps tackle the typical uncertainty that homeowners often feel during a construction project.

-
Our Certified Start-Up Process & Long-Term Care
-
With NPC “Start-up” Certification, we are equipped to monitor and address the delicate state of your new plaster for the first month after your project. This final step is critical to the safety of your friends and family, as well as the longevity and beauty of your pool.

Project Example: Riverfront Remodel
One of our favorite projects was a riverfront property with a beautiful view and spacious backyard. The entire house had been remodeled which left the pool to stand out like a sore thumb. Our designers walked the homeowners through the vision to transform the backyard into a more practical space with a modernized design.
Before:
Once an elegant oasis, this pool had seen better days. With plaster peeling off the walls, an outdated shape, and a need to make a statement, we knew we had our work cut out for us.
The Pool Transformation:
Our team worked around the clock to bring the vision to life. One of the most drastic changes we made required us to form and pour concrete steps in order to square off both ends of the pool, creating a timeless rectangular shape. We also laid a coping made of recycled brick to pop pleasantly against the blue waterline tile.
The Deck Transformation:
After leveling the old water damaged deck foundation, we installed 18 by 36 inch porcelain tiles to create a luxurious expanse across the pool area. And because the homeowners needed more privacy than their old wooden fence provided, they requested an 8-foot tall privacy wall. We accented this with the same brick used in the coping and painted the stucco to match the porcelain deck tiles. This helped us seamlessly tie together the entire outdoor space.
Result:
The homeowners were estatic for the final result. The materials and colors we chose built a picturesque atmosphere worthy of their freshly renovated waterfront home. With a larger, structurally sound deck and the privacy to enjoy it, we know this family will enjoy their backyard for decades to come.
